Our Family Programs aim to support early childhood development by providing free public events that empower parents and caregivers to read to their young children.

We also partner with various organizations throughout the state of Missouri to offer fun literacy-based activities for families.

 Growing Up with the River

We invite families to join us as we explore the Missouri River Valley from 1806 and into the future!

Read from the Start

Children who grow up hearing stories and engaging with books have a better chance of falling in love with language and succeeding in school. Research shows that reading aloud is the single most important activity a caregiver can do to help a child prepare for reading and learning. Our family reading program, Read from the Start (RFTS), empowers parents and caregivers to read to their young children regularly- helping them form early habits that foster a lifelong love of reading.

We remain committed to keeping this program free of charge, and all participants keep the high-quality children’s books presented in the program. We’re honored to partner with many literacy-focused organization throughout the state who help make this program possible.
