Women’s History Month Program-The Revolving Academy Door: African American Women in Higher Education

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the GKCBHSG is partnering with our institutional members, the Clay County African American Legacy Inc, and Missouri Humanities, and with the William Jewell College Departments of History, Communication, and Education to host, The Revolving Academy Door: African American Women in Higher Education. The program will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Vanessa Garry, Associate Professor in the College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is a member of The Missouri Humanities Speaker’s Bureau. Dr. Garry has researched Dr. Ruth Harris, the first African American female president of Harris-Stowe State University. Following her presentation will be a panel discussion among African American women in higher education who will discuss the challenges and joys of working in higher education, often achieving against the odds.

This timely program and discussion will take place on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. on the campus of William Jewell College. See the attached flyer for details.
