Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshop for Teachers University of Missouri-Kansas City
July 21 – July 26 or July 28 – August 2
During the 1920s and 1930s, city leaders boasted of Kansas City’s economic and civic triumphs and culture flourished, yet these achievements occurred in a political, social, and economic landscape fraught with machine politics, vice, and long histories of people fighting for their rights and freedoms. Much of what played out in Kansas City is a reflection of the larger cultural and historical forces that shaped this era in U.S. history. This workshop will provide K-12 educators with tools to devise fresh techniques for using historical sites and material culture to enable their students to engage with the past. Participant stipends of $1,300 made possible by the NEH. History graduate credit available through the UMKC History Department.
