Veteran Writing Workshop: Exploring Writing through the Lens of the Stars and Stripes

Join Missouri Humanities on Saturday, September 7th, at the Stars and Stripes National Museum and Library in Bloomfield, Missouri, for a unique and inspiring workshop where we will draw writing inspiration from the museum’s exhibits and artifacts.

This FREE workshop offers veterans, retired and active military, and military-connected family members an opportunity to engage with the rich history of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper and museum while exploring creativity through writing. Using ekphrasis—the practice of writing descriptively about creative works or visual objects – participants will be led through writing exercises focusing on short-form pieces such as flash fiction, poetry, and essays.

Our experienced facilitators will guide participants through the process, offering valuable insights and providing constructive feedback. Connect with fellow writers as we explore the power of the written word and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Stars and Stripes. Participants are not required to write solely on their military experience.
