Missouri Humanities is hosting a series of free virtual capacity building workshops designed to empower organizations and communities across Missouri. These workshops, held on the first Tuesday of each month, cover crucial topics such as documenting impact (September 3), fundraising (October 1), corporate relationship building (November 5), and exhibit development (December 3). By participating, attendees gain practical skills and insights to enhance their programs, secure funding, and foster community engagement, making these sessions an essential resource for those looking to make a lasting impact in their communities.

October 1 – Fundraising with Kevin Jamison
Join our “Fundraising” workshop where you’ll explore fundraising considerations for preparing an impactful exhibit. Participants will learn to develop effective fundraising strategies, how to engage the community for support, and event preparation techniques that support effective fundraising and future operations. Finally, we’ll share valuable tips for executing a successful fundraising campaign that drives excitement and participation for your future events.

November 5 – Corporate Relationships with Kevin Jamison
Our “Corporate Relationships” workshop is designed to equip you with the skills needed for effective corporate engagement. This class will cover essential topics such as planning for corporate relations, understanding ROI, developing sponsorship opportunities, and mastering cold calling strategies. Participants will also learn how to pitch effectively, as well as the importance of follow-up and follow-through in building lasting corporate partnerships.

Kevin Jamison served for 20 years as an intelligence officer in the USMC and has over a decade of fundraising experience. He has started a nonprofit that battles veteran homelessness, developed corporate relations efforts for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation, and developed a foundation for the largest credit union in Oklahoma.

December 3 – Exhibit Building with TBD

January 1 – Grant Writing with Jackie Spainhower
The Grant Writing workshop will walk participants through a basic logic model designed to help applicants link program activities to outcomes for community-based projects. Logic models can be used in various stages of the process, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Jackie Spainhower, Community Development Specialist for MU Extension has over 23 years of experience in researching, collaborating, and writing grants for small non-profit and local government agencies in northwest Missouri.

February 4 – Event Planning with Ashley Allen-Brown
The Event Planning workshop covers everything from creating event timelines to managing vendors and budgets. Learn valuable strategies for coordinating successful events and gain a better understanding of the intricacies involved in event planning.

Facilitated by Dr. Ashley Allen-Brown, Regional Economic and Community Development Specialist for MU Extension, Dr. Allen-Brown has nearly three decades experience in event planning for grassroots, educational, special interest, and non-profit fundraising.

March 4 – Community Conversations with GK Callahan and Letitia Johnson
Community Conversations involve engaging people in discussions and decision-making, increasing knowledge about the issue at hand, fostering trust, and exploring strategies. They center around embracing diversity and bringing together stakeholders in a relaxed yet meaningful manner, finding innovative solutions. This workshop will guide participants through a Community Conversations Toolkit, providing an overview of how and why to organize successful public engagement events.

Two MU Extension field faculty members will lead the workshop: GK Callahan, Extension Engagement and Community Arts Specialist in the Kansas City area, and Letitia Johnson, Community Development Specialist in mid-Missouri.
