On Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm, the Greater Kansas City Black History Study Group will resume its fall programming with our Founder’s Day Program to be held at the Black Archives of Mid-America-1722 E. 17th Terrace-Kansas City, MO 64108. The 2024 theme, African Americans and the Arts, continues to be explored in this month’s program featuring local independent filmmakers, Mr. Rodney M. Thompson and Mr. W. Stinson McClendon. African American artists have used art to preserve history and community memory, as well as for empowerment.
Thompson and McClendon’s presentation will feature trailers and excerpts from films made during their careers exploring a wide variety of subjects, having committed themselves to documenting Kansas City’s African American history.
