Bethel Colony Fall Market

September 30 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
$2.00

The Historic Bethel German Colony hosts several events each year to bring people into the community. The Fall Market held Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2024 features historic home tours, vendors, local shops, weaving and rug hooking demonstration, a variety of food vendors, and live music by The Shortleaf Band.

Hours: Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 10am-3pm. Admission is $2 for adults, children 12 & under free. (All proceeds benefit ongoing preservation of the town’s historic buildings.)

Bethel, in North River Valley, was founded in 1844 as a religious communal colony by Wilhelm Keil and his German-American followers. Without a written agreement, they shared their property and labor, though private earnings were allowed. Bethel community was early noted for its handicrafts and musical band.

HISTORIC HOME TOURS – Guided tours for this event will be held at 1pm daily and include The Bair Haus, Fannie’s, and JG Bauer. Tickets $10 each (children free) can be purchased at the Museum, which is open free of charge.

MARKET ENTERTAINMENT – The Shortleaf Band, founded by Ozark Fiddler Michael Fraser, is a duet specializing in high-energy dance music rooted in celtic and old time traditions. Haunting ballads, rip roaring fiddle tunes with a dose of Southern Rock will provide what one may describe as “the real Mountain Music”! Mike and Tenley are folk musicians who specialize in the traditional music of the Ozarks and are touring performers of Missouri Arts Council.

FOOD – Fest Hall (serving German and American buffet both days), Colony Foodstand (burgers, brats, snacks and drinks), Bethel Bakery, Bethel Candy Kitchen, lemonade shakeups, ice cream.
