Heritage Tourism Training in Ste. Genevieve

By Bob Mueller, President, Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve

People aged 16 on up have a rare opportunity this winter and spring to receive FREE training for participation in Ste. Genevieve's heritage tourism industry. Ste. Genevieve is unique in North America as a living community with visible ties to our French Colonial past. Helping visitors understand the richness of our heritage is the primary work of the heritage tourism industry. Our idea is to make the interpretation of Ste. Genevieve much more lively and experiential, with many volunteers working in period costume. We need people of all generations, high school to retirees, to make our new interpretation take off!

Training will consist of 4 classes, each lasting four hours. You will learn about how to improve the visitor experience, about the rich history of Ste. Genevieve, about period costumes, and about various Ste. Genevieve tourist attractions. Reference materials on Ste. Genevieve history and costuming will be provided to all participants.

We are offering the same classes twice. Our Friday afternoon classes will meet from 1 to 5 p.m. on February 19 and 26th, and March 12 and 19th. Our Saturday morning option will runs from 8 a.m. to noon on February 20 and 27th and March 13 and 20th.

The February 19 and 20th training will be conducted at the University of MO Extension Office Patke Room located at 251 Market Street in Ste. Genevieve.  Future locations will be announced at that time. If, on a given week, you cannot attend at your normal scheduled time, you can attend the other session.   You can sign up for training either  in person at the Chamber Office located at 251 Market Street in Ste. Genevieve, or by calling the Chamber Office at 573-883-3686, faxing them at 573-883-7092 or emailing them at info@stegenchamber.org with your name, address, phone number, email address and which sessions (Friday afternoon or Saturday morning) you wish to attend.
